Hey Ralfy.. Malt Matador here.
Can you please (pretty please) review the Lagavulin double matured? There are no videos reviews out there on? this exciting bottle. The idea of a sherry overcoat on a peat monster and making it work sounds fascinating.
Cheers mate.
@ralfystuff thanks for the advice on the Ancnoc. the two bottles in question for HP are both standard bottlings of the 18 yo. the first, slightly more expensive, is the older expression before HP changed their entire packaging. The second HP 18 is in the new packaging. I’ve heard there is a? slight difference in taste and wondered if you thought either was better for some reason. I thought both were 43% ABV but I could be wrong.
Ralfy, I really want to try the HP 18 after hearing so many good things about it but? I can’t decide between the older bottling and the newer one. The older one is a little more expensive locally (about $15 USD more) but is it still worth little more in your opinion? I’m also thinking about trying the AnCnoc 16 but I’d have to order away for it :-/
Mine — not too expensive (I’ll stick? to Scottish Distillers and not mention some of the great whisk(e)y made in the US, Japan, Ireland, etc at this time):
Ardbeg Uigeadail
Balblair 1989
Ben Nevis 14 (Sherry cask)
Glendronach 15
Glenfarclas 15
Glenrothes 1991
Highland Park 18 (I prefer the 21, but it’s expensive and hard to get. The 18′s a great all rounder)
Lagavulin 16 (I prefer the standard 16 to the Distiller’s Ed)
Mortlach 16
I’m a malt muddler, a novice at that…so I’m usually more comfortable stuck back in the blended whiskeys,? that I’ve not yet dared to dip into the single malts…but with your help and recomendations, I will bravely go down to my purveyer and pick some up straight away! Thank you ralfy. Good show!
Glengoyne 17 was my first serious encounter with single malt, starting to taste these. I found it absolutely wonderfull.
Later discovering other brilliant malts, but? I would not let a mature Glengoyne pass me by.
Congrats again ralfy for your nice videos. I agree with you on the HP 18yo but the other 4 for me would be Ardbeg Uigeadail, Glenfarclas 15yo, and two discontinued versions, the Bowmore 17yo and the Glenmorangie 15yo
As for the lower price diamonds I would recommend Connemara C/S, Balvenie 15yo single barrel,? Springbank 100proof, Laphroaig 10yo and an Irish blend (yes folks, a blend!!) the Jameson 12yo
is the peatiness in? Lagavulin just as intense as JW black or better?

Lagavulin is probably the best whiskey in the world… at least in my oppinion^^?
I’ve? really enjoyed your reviews thus far, as they’ve helped me dip my toes into the ‘water of life’, so to speak.
@elgallo477
At the? moment,, … Lagavulin.
Ralfy great review as? always, but if you have to choose between Lagavulin double mature or HP 18. Which one will you go for??
@Ungart404
probably better with? the older version.
The new packaged one at 43% is ‘soft of the target’

Ancnoc 16 is well worth the effort – 91/100
and ONLY go for HP at 46% vol:, … the 43% is NOT the? same quality.
